In today’s world many parents are considering home schooling their children. Currently there are more than one million young people being educated at home today. This trend stems from parental concerns about violence, peer pressure, teacher/student ratio, and the fear that children are intellectually short-changed by poor teaching. Home school is a viable alternative for parents seeking adequate education and a safe environment for children.

A new breed of home schoolers is emerging. The most vocal and organized home schoolers tend to be religiously motivated, and are most are often conservative Christians,Muslims or Jews.

Home school provides children with above-average education. On average, test scores for home schooled children are 30 to 37 percent higher than those for other students. Home schooled children have the advantage of being taught on a one-on-one basis, which deepens their learning experience. This allows children to excel to their highest potential, without being held back due to other children’s shortcomings. One-on-one teaching also helps children focus on subjects they struggle with. It allows children to learn at their own pace and keeps distractions at a minimum.

Colleges are also seeking out home schooled students. Several colleges view home schoolers as children who have had to work harder, therefore increasing their productivity. Boston University welcomes applicants who are home schooled. The University feels that home schooled students have a passion for learning and their independence and self-reliance allow them to excel intellectually in challenging programs.

Safety is assured for children attending home school.

There are some positives that come out of home schooling your child. The positive advantages of home schooling is there is one on one help available at all times instead of being in a crowded class room and the child is in a safe and protective environment and knows that mom or dad is close by. The child will also have a chance to develop a good relationship with their parent by having the chance to spend time and interact with their parent much more than the normal child who is away from their parent during the day.

What can kids possibly get in home school environment that they can’t get in public school? I think that there are better opportunities for children to develop basic social skills in public schools rather than home schooling. These social skills learned during adolescence can only be learned through the interaction with other peers. I think home schooling may even possibly slow the process of a child’s development of social skills because the child does not have a chance to interact with other children. Children in public schools have the chance to interact daily with other students their age.
